Cyclone Shelter

"You can't put a price on square metres when you're talking about saving people's lives"

Indigenous communities in the East Arnhem region are situated within some of the most cyclone-prone coastlines in the world.

With community safety and prosperity at the very core of Region C's principle aspirations as a company, our team is dedicated to constructing a cyclone shelter for each major community within the East Arnhem region. And with more than 10,000 Yolgnu residents estimated to be living in the nine communities covered by Region C, it will be a task of gigantic proportions to ensure that in the event of a major cyclone, each one of these 10,000 residents will have a refuge.

Not only will these shelters provide infinite benefits to a community during a cyclone, they may also be used as a temporary refuge for community residents affected by major flooding during the Top End's Wet Season or any other emergency situation that requires short term shelter for a large number of people in a remote Indigenous community.

  • With our unique modular design, Region C Cyclone Shelters can be modified to accommodate anywhere from 200 people up to more than 700 people.
  • Region C Cyclone Shelters could also become multi-purpose community facilities
  • Cyclone Shelters come with a separate purpose-built shipping container housing a 21KVA generator for independent power source
  • Region C Cyclone Shelters include bathroom facilities and can be designed to also incorporate kitchen facilities upon request

Region C has recently completed a 363m2 Cyclone Shelter for Milingimbi community. In the event of a major cyclone, the shelter will provide refuge for more than 250 people making it an invaluable community facility that will play a major role in community safety.
